There are only a handful of states in the US without a major sports team. Here is a list of those states: Alaska

Hawaii Idaho Montana

North Dakota South Dakota Wyoming

These states are typically considered to be fly-over country by many people, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have avid sports fans. And North Dakota State University has one of the most rabid fan bases in all of college football. So even though these states may not have professional teams, they still have plenty of sports fans.

What States Don’T Have Major Sports Teams?

There are a handful of states in the US that don’t have major sports teams. These states are typically smaller in population and/or geographically isolated. The states without major sports teams are Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming.

Alaska is the largest state in the US by area, and it has a very small population. There are no professional sports teams in Alaska because there isn’t a large enough population to support them. Hawaii is another state with a small population.

It also doesn’t have any professional sports teams for the same reason as Alaska. Montana has a slightly larger population than Alaska and Hawaii combined, but it still isn’t large enough to support professional sports teams. Montana is also a very rural state with a lot of open space.

This makes it difficult to build stadiums or arenas that meet the requirements of professional leagues. North Dakota and South Dakota are similar to Montana in terms ofpopulation and geography. They also don’t have any professional sports teams for these reasons.

Vermont is another small state with a rural population. It does have one semi-professional team called the Vermont Voltage, but they don’t compete at the same level as major league teams. Wyoming is the smallest state in the US by populationand it also has a very rural economy.
